Work From Home
Deduction Calculator

Estimate your WFH deduction using the ATO fixed-rate method — 70¢ for every hour you work from home.

Potential deduction
$515
736 hrs × 70¢
Indicative tax saving
~$155
at a 30% marginal rate

Estimate only. Excludes the Medicare levy and your personal circumstances — your actual outcome is determined by the ATO when you lodge.

Before you claim this

  • You must keep a record of your actual hours— a diary, timesheet, roster or similar covering the whole year. Estimates aren't accepted.
  • The 70¢ rate already coverselectricity, gas, internet, phone, stationery and consumables — you can't claim those separately on top.
  • Depreciation on a desk, chair or computer can be claimed in addition to the fixed rate.
  • The alternative is the actual cost method — more record-keeping, sometimes a bigger claim. You can only use one method per year.
  • Check the current rules at ato.gov.au.

WFH is just one deduction.

TaxMate scans 12 months of your bank transactions and flags potential deductions across every ATO label — phone, clothing, education, travel, tools and more.
